I'll start with a caveat, which is that if you are looking for a light and easy read, this isn't it. It's a huge book. The reason I give it 5 stars is not because it's fun but because it's scholarly. It contains all the information there is about Foucault - whatever you need is here. Its main competitor, Miller's Passion of Michel Foucault, is a much more fun read, but it achieves this by being a partial and inaccurate retelling of Foucault's life.
