Abstract
The LGVT 5-12+ is used for the differentiated determination of reading speed, reading accuracy, and reading comprehension in grades 5 to 13. It can be used as a group and individual test, e.g., for remedial diagnoses, learning progress measurements, or in the context of research work.
Description
The task consists of reading a continuous text and, within a fixed processing time, selecting at a maximum of 47 text passages which of three given words best fits the context. The number of words read, the number of correct solutions (rate-corrected), and finally the ratio between processed and correctly solved items are used as parameters for reading speed, reading comprehension, and reading accuracy. Compared to the former LGVT 6-12, the procedure has been fundamentally extended, revised, and re-normed. Two parallel texts have been added to the previous text, so that multiple testing is now possible to document developmental progress. Furthermore, a much better differentiation in the lower performance range was achieved by increasing the item density and the extended test time, which means that the test can now also be used in the 5th grade.
