Abstract
The DERET 5-6+ is a group or individual test based on the educational standards and curriculum content of the German states for the differential assessment of spelling competencies at the middle and end of the fifth and sixth school year as well as at the middle of the seventh school year.
Description
Two parallel test forms are available. Each test form consists of three subtests: a continuous text dictation, a dictation of individual sentences, and a cloze sentence dictation.
A wide range of diagnostic questions can be answered via three different levels of analysis. At analysis level 1, the general (number of correctly spelled words) and specific (e.g. capitalization) orthographic basic skills are recorded.
At analysis level 2, the closer assessment of individual letters or letter combinations makes it possible to record 11 curricularly anchored performance standards (e.g., scale stretching "ie").
Analysis level 3 allows the determination of a fivefold hierarchical-differential developmental profile for the assessment of the written language development level oriented towards the language-systematic spelling promotion approach according to Reuter-Liehr (1993, 2008).
