Abstract
MORPHEUS-TB can be used to test spelling competencies in students in grades 4 to 7. The three-part test battery consists of the spelling test FDRT, a matching spelling error analysis for free texts (FDRA) and a screening for morphemic awareness (SMB). Use them as part of the diagnosis of a spelling disability or for individual support planning and progress monitoring. Use the economical PC evaluation for FDRT and SMB. Combine the test battery with the appropriate support program MORPHEUS (Kargl & Purgstaller, 2010).
Description
The test battery consists of a diagnostic spelling test (FDRT) in the form of a cloze dictation, a matching error analysis for free texts (FDRA), and the screening for morphemic awareness (SMB).

The aim of the procedure is a scientifically based diagnosis of orthographic and morphemic competencies in a school and scientific context. In addition, the procedure can be used in the diagnosis of learning disorders in the area of spelling. The third focus is on remedial diagnostics and progress monitoring through the analysis of ten practical error categories: phonetic errors, hard/soft consonants, double consonants, dilation, S-writing, prefixes, suffixes, word stem ä, double consonants at the morpheme boundary, and upper/lower case. These ten error categories are grouped according to a cognitive developmental model of spelling and form the basis for error analysis in the FDRT and FDRA. The error categories are precisely aligned with the rule-based, morphemic concept of the separately available spelling development program MORPHEUS (Kargl & Purgstaller, 2010). Therefore, by using the MORPHEUS test battery and the MORPHEUS support program at the same time, precise individual support for spelling competence can be planned.

In the FDRT, spelling competencies can be tested overall (correctly spelled words) as well as optionally the ten remedial diagnostic error categories. Two parallel forms with 31 (Form A) and 33 (Form B) cloze sentences are available. Form A and B can also be used in combination as a long form (A + B). The evaluation can be done manually or very economically with the help of the evaluation program on the PC. The PC program also offers an export function for the data.

To perform the long form of the FDRT (A + B), the test booklets or evaluation sheets in forms A and B are required. The profile sheet can be used either for the A, B or A + B form. If the PC evaluation program is used, only the test booklets are needed. The SMB tests morphemic competence, e.g. in the area of derivation or inflection, with the help of 18 pseudowords, which have to be changed in such a way that they complete given sentences grammatically correctly. The use of pseudowords precludes semantic strategies from playing a role. Morphological awareness is an important prerequisite for morphemic support approaches (such as the MORPHEUS support program). The SMB can be evaluated by hand or with the help of the PC program.

The FDRA is an analysis grid adapted to the ten error categories of the FDRT for the categorization of errors from free texts, through which the remedial diagnostics can be considerably deepened. The FDRA is evaluated by hand.
