Abstract
The KWKJ records the extent to which parents make the expression of their affection dependent on the child's desired behavior or school performance from the perspective of students in grades 5 to 10. The questionnaire can be used for abnormalities in learning and performance behavior (e.g., test anxiety) and for in-depth diagnostics in the context of clinical-psychological abnormalities (e.g., depression). The KWKJ shows very good internal consistency; it has been standardized and extensively validated on a large calibration sample.
Description
Conditional esteem" is understood to mean that parents make the expression of their affection and esteem for their own child dependent on the child showing desirable behavior or performance (e.g., "Whether my mother likes me depends on what grades I get in school."). Children's and adolescents' experience of conditional esteem is involved in the development of a wide variety of clinical as well as educational-psychological abnormalities. A precise picture of the experience of conditional esteem enables the targeted selection of therapeutic and educational interventions.

The KWKJ allows a differentiated as well as economic assessment of the conditional esteem that children and adolescents experience from their parents with regard to academic performance and their emotion regulation. It records the extent to which adolescents perceive an increase in appreciation for desirable behavior and/or a withdrawal of appreciation for undesirable behavior.
